BIC, Sakhir?? Action and intensity return to Bahrain International Karting Circuit (BIKC) this week as the new season of the Bahrain SWS Sprint Championship flags off.
The first of eight rounds in the 2016/2017 campaign roars into action?Thursday?night (Editor?s note:?June 9) at Sakhir?s world-class facility for grassroots motorsport.
The SWS is an arrive-and-drive series, making it widely popular amongst Bahrain?s motor racing enthusiasts. It is open to karters of all skill levels and experience, as they are provided a chance to compete in a fun yet professionally run event.
All interested participants aged 16 years old and above, both men and women of any nationality, are welcome to take part. Competitors race in identical Sodi RT8 390cc karts, which are provided for by BIKC.
Thursday?s?action will be held under floodlights.?Racing is scheduled to get underway with Qualifying at?10pm. The Pre-Final will then be held at?10.30pm?over 11 laps, followed by the Final at?11.10pm?over 15 laps. The podium ceremony will follow all the action.
All are welcome to attend and watch the karters battle one another. Entrance to BIKC is free of charge. The championship has been organised by BIKC and Bahrain International Circuit, in cooperation with the Bahrain Motor Federation.
Following?Thursday?s?meeting, the next round of the BKSC will be held on?June 16. Both rounds add to a packed programme of motorsport during the holy month of Ramadan at BIC, ?The Home of Motorsport in the Middle East?.
Round three will then take place in on?October 7?and round four on?November 25, marking the final event of the calendar year. The championship moves on to 2017 with round five on?January 6, round six on?February 17, round seven on?March 24?and then finally concludes with round eight on?April 7.
SWS rounds three through eight will be held under the umbrella of the Bahrain Karting Sprint Championship, which also features the Bahrain Rotax Mojo Max Championship.
